Ghanaians urged to emulate the life Kofi Annan lived

Mr Donald Adabere, Chairman of the Upper East Region branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS), has admonished Ghanaians to emulate the life of former United Nations General Secretary, Dr Kofi Annan.

Mr Adabere stated that the late UN General Secretary lived a life to the admiration of all which impacted positively on Ghana and the world as a whole.

“When people die they leave behind memories and this is somebody who has such tremendous impact not only to Ghanaians but the rest of the world. And I think that we must make it a point to read about him, to read about things he has done and to try to follow his ways because any meaningful leader will want to live the life of Kofi Annan”, he stated.

Mr Adabere made this remarks when he led the Upper East Region Women’s Wing of the Ghana Red Cross Society to express their condolences to the family of Dr Annan through the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

The women, who dressed in the society’s attire and solemnly singing dirges, expressed their condolences to family of the late UN boss and Ghanaians at large.

Mr Adabere who recounted the late Dr Annan’s visit to the Sirigu Women’s Organization for Pottery and Arts (SWOPA) in the Kassena- Nankana West District in 2002 described him as “an honorable man whose life is worth emulating”.

The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Frank Fuseini Adongo thanked the Ghana Red Cross Society for the decision to join the world in mourning the fallen hero.

Mr Adongo said the late Dr Annan’s life was a source of inspiration, and indicated that he received the announcement of Dr Annan’ death with shock.

The Deputy Minister made an appeal on behalf of people of the region for a monument to be erected at SWOPA to attract tourist in memory of Dr Annan.

Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko, Acting Chief Director for the Region said the late Kofi Annan was a man whom humanity benefited from.
