As Africans, marriage is very important to us not just for the normal institution it is, but also for the fulfilment of a certain status especially procreation.
As a result, there’s always pressure on especially ladies at a certain age to settle down with a man. In the process, those who fail to get Mr. Right in one way or that other find themselves giving birth out of wedlock to satisfy an aspect of societal demand.
It’s in the light of this that sensational Ghanaian actresses Yvonne Nelson has stated categorically that her greatest joy in life is the fact that she has a biological baby girl regardless of her bastard status.
Although, she accepted the fact that it’s important to get married before giving birth but the unfortunate has already happened but she is happy having a child out of wedlock. Yvonne in an interview with BBC, she indicated that;
“I believe it’s the right thing to do. To get married, have kids, raise a family is ideal but I believe society puts a lot of pressure on women, young women in Africa especially.”
She continued that what matters most is that; “at the end of the day if my mum, my family is happy with me, I am happy with myself, that’s it.”
As a reminder, Yvonne Nelson welcomed her first child, Ryn Roberts – a girl – on Sunday, October 29, 2017, with her fiancée, Jamie Roberts who doubles as a photographer by profession.
