I will deliver Tamale central to NPP - Governor

The Tamale Central Constituency parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Abass Zakaria has reiterated that, he is the best person to deliver the Tamale central seat for the party.

The NPP parliamentary primaries is slated for tomorrow.

The NPP has never won the Tamale central constituency following the division of the then Gukpegu-Sabonjida constituency into two constituencies, Tamale South and Tamale central after the 2000 elections. The late Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris on the ticket of the NPP, won the Gupkegu-Sabonjida constituency in the 2000 elections but lost the seat (Tamale South) in the 2004 elections to Haruna Iddrisu.

The NPP after the late Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris is yet to win any of the three seats in Tamale, including the Tamale North, Tamale South and Central. Again, the Sagnarigu Constituency which was carve out of the Tamale North constituency is in the hands of the NDC.

Many political opinions have come to the conclusion that, the Tamale and Sagnarigu seats are no-go area for the NPP but Mr. Abass Zakaria popularly known as Governor reiterated that, it’s not a big deal to win the seat for the NPP.

According to him, the NPP have always selected the wrong people to represent the party in the last elections, adding that, the party can only win the Tamale central seat if the right person is chosen.

Governor, who is the main contender to the 2016 NPP Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP and NABCO Boss, Dr. Anyass Ibrahim in tomorrow’s NPP parliamentary primaries reiterated that, he will deliver the Tamale Central seat to the NPP in the 2020 elections if delegates give him the knob, tomorrow.

Mr. Abass who is contesting for the second time to represent the NPP in the Tamale Central constituency urged delegates of the party to try him also for the betterment of the party.

The Civil Engineer and Union Chairman of VRA/GridCO described himself as a local man and a man who has been with the people in the constituency since the inception of the party.

“I’m contesting because the constituency seems to be suffering from depression. Depression in the sense that there are a lot of problems we figure that we could send some people to fish for us but we are not seeing those returns and we can’t seat aloof because the problems may take us away”. He said

“And as a listening leader as I am, my doors are always opened for liberation and transformation so that in projections we can fish to bring food home for the people to survive. My strength reside in the delegates because they have the power and they are going to vote and i always tell them that am supervising what they are supposed to have and they are not getting but come Saturday am urging all of them to vote for me for liberation and transformational leadership”.

Twenty-four candidates are contesting in nine ‘orphan’ constituencies in the Northern Region tomorrow.
