Several distinguished women were last Saturday honoured at the maiden Ghana Women Of The Year Honours at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
The honours, under the theme Women Inspiring Women, “celebrate the mavericks, the enduring souls, the tenacious sisters, the standard bearers” in Ghana.
The honours night was part of a three-day event aimed at appreciating women of excellence, recognise their commitment and dedication in key sectors of Ghana’s social fabric.
The event, put together by Glitz Africa, publishers of the Glitz Africa Magazine, was a night of glitz, glamour and style as celebrities and invited guests came together to appreciate women for their hard work.
Some of the celebrities who graced the occasion were; Lydia Forson, Kojo Yankson, Nana Aba Anamoah, Caroline Sampson, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Stacy Amoateng, Okyeame Quophi, Jon Germain, Sandra Ankobea, Akumaa Mama Zimbi and Bella Mundi.

Excellence in Media – Beatrice Aidoo
Excellence in Health – Beatrice Wiafe Addae
Excellence in Arts – Grace Nortey
Excellence in Education – Professor Henrietta Joy Abena Nyarko Mensa-Bonsu
Excellence in Corporate Responsibility – Lucy Quist
Excellence in Humanity – Abena Antwi
Trail Blazer of the year – Farida Bedwei
Future Leaders’ Award- Jessica Quaye – (Overall Best Student - WASSCE)
Other activities that preceded the honours included the ‘SHE SUMMIT’ for students and young corporate women or entrepreneurs at the African Regent Hotel on May 19 and May 20 respectively.
On May 21, there was a special walk with mothers at the Efua Sutherland Children’s park in support of Maternal Health. That event was climaxed with a free health screening.
