My dad’s death inspired me to be a nurse – Wendy Shay reveals
Singer Wendy Shay has revealed that the untimely death of her father inspired her to become a nurse.
According to her, her curiosity to know more about her late dad’s death pushed her to study nursing in school.
The ‘Uber Driver’ singer told Lexis Bill in an interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM that, “I wanted to be a nurse because of my dad because I lost my dad to a very weird sickness and my mum didn’t know it that well. So [it’s] because I wanted to know what killed him.”
The singer, who has lived in Germany since age 13, revealed that she “used to work in a hospital as a midwife…” and she practised for a year and a half.
To her, the most exciting part of being a nurse was getting “to meet new people and they trust me…because I get so close to them…it’s really amazing.”
The worst part of being a nurse, she revealed, was “getting racists comments like some patients telling me not to touch them because I’m black…”
Asked how she dealt with such situations, she said “I tell them that if they don’t want my presence I will just leave at the end of the day you are the one in bed, you need help so if you are not nice to me and you want me to leave, I will just leave.”
Wendy Shay said she sometimes misses being a nurse recounting that she did meet some nice people during that phase of her life.
