NPP Decides: Be prepared to splash my pictures on your wall, gate – Mike Oquaye Jnr. to Adwoa Safo

New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring candidate for parliament, in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Mike Oquaye Jnr. has admonished that his opponent, Sarah Adwoa Safo, accepts the results of today’s polls and be ready to publicly indicate so if he emerges winner.

Speaking to Ghanaweb on the sidelines, Mr. Oquaye cited previous instances where he had to splash his opponent’s pictures on the walls and gates of his house after his defeat in a similar poll, to indicate that he had accepted the choice of the delegates, and was ready to support the chosen one.

He believes the same must be done in the case of Adwoa Safo if he is chosen by the delegates to represent parliament.

“My advise is that if by God’s grace I win today, my opponent should put my picture on her gate or wall, just to let people know that we care about the elephant and not about the individual.” He said.

He was confident that peace will prevail, and the bigger goal of selecting a deserving winner to represent NPP in the general elections will be achieved. He holds nothing negative against his opponent, Adwoa Safo, and is hopeful the delegates will make the right choice.

“I don’t feel anything against her. We are both of the NPP fraternity. We both recognize that the elephant is the winning symbol, so it's just a question of competition. Both of us are of the NPP, Senior Members of the NPP for that matter. Once the opportunity has come for the delegates to decide, so be it.” He stated.

Adding, “We must remember that she is MP today because the delegates once voted for her. And the delegates have the right according to our constitution and our democracy, to choose a representative to represent us at the general elections. So the delegates will decide who they want to represent them, based on their own assessment of the performance and potential and what they can change, and they’ll either retain or change. I believe everything will be well.”



Mr. Oquaye Jnr. was also impressed with the respective protocols that have been put in place to ensure the safety of delegates, candidates, and officials during the entire process.

“The NPP has done a fantastic job, I feel that they are respecting the protocols the president has directed, I think that everything is good and maybe this will be a precursor for what will happen in the general elections.”
