Three people suspected to be armed robbers have been arrested by the Operation Cow Leg team based at Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern region.

The suspects – Amadu Hamidu, 45, Tahiru Gariba,33, and Omaru Teta,25, – all believed to be Fulani herdsmen were arrested on March 8, 2019, at about 10 am by the six-member Operation Cow Leg team led by Lieutenant Bright Baah Asante.

A locally manufactured pistol and six live cartridges were retrieved from the suspects.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the team spotted the three together with two others now at large emerging from the bush in a suspicious manner in preparation towards the commission of robbery whilst on duty at Sambour Police barrier area of Kwahu Abetifi.

The Operation Cow Leg team, he said, immediately advanced towards them and managed to arrest three out of the five suspects as the two escaped into the bush.

The suspects have been handed over to the Mpraeso Police.

Since the last quarter of 2018, about 40 suspected highway robbers mostly from Fulani extraction have been arrested with many ammunition and weapons retrieved in Kwahu and Afram plains area in special operations.

The arrests followed a surge in highway robbery cases in the area which is mostly targeted at traders.
