Policeman arrested for leading a robbery gang in Navrongo

Lance Corporal Ndebugri Asaah, a policeman stationed at Chiana in Kasena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region has been arrested for leading a gang that robbed some residents of their money and mobile phones.

Police sources confirmed to MyNewsGh.com that the suspect and seven his accomplices said to be on the run, on Friday dawn, robbed their victims on a section of the Bolga-Navrongo motor road near Notre Dame senior High School at gunpoint

A police patrol team rushed to the scene but the robbers fled into the bush.

The victims who reported their ordeal to the patrolmen, directed them to the direction taken by one of the robbers on a motorbike believed to be the arrested policeman.

According to them, the one who fled on the motorbike was the same person who collected their monies and mobile phones and then passed it on to the others.

Armed with this information, the police pursued and intercepted the alleged robber only to be identified as Number 48430 Lance Corporal Ndebugre Asaah stationed at Chiana but on snap check barrier duties at Navrongo, a post nowhere near the spot of the arrest.

Though when searched, nothing incriminating was found on him, his dress was very dirty and his cap engulfed with particle of dried leaves, an indication that he was operating from the bush.

The victims lost various sums of local and foreign currency as well as their mobile phones to the bandits.

When interrogated, the suspect claimed he was also a victim to the robbery but his phone or motorbike were not taken from him, contrary to the trend as narrated by the complainants.

He has since been detained to assist with investigations.
