Tamale cop killer faces court on new charges for shooting man in 2018

Police prosecutors have filed new charges against the prime suspect in the murder of a policewoman in Tamale for attempting to murder a man, Tominu Yussif, a resident of Kpanvo in Tamale, in 2018.

Issahaku Yakubu Kanbo-Naa, will today be arraigned on new charges of attempted murder and use of offensive weapons without authority at the Tamale Magistrate Court.

A police statement said the accused person on May 9, 2019 at about 9:00pm went to a popular bar, James Town Drinking Spot, located at “Assemblyman Park” at Waterworks to take some bottles of drinks.

“Whilst there, the accused person whose palace is adjoining to the drinking spot emerged from nowhere and started firing AK-47 rifle indiscriminately into the air”, the claimed.

According to the statement, the accused person then went and sat with the victim and demanded 2,000 cedis from him.

“The victim rejected the request and the accused person eventually shot him in the left thigh.”

According to the statement, an eyewitness in the case called the victim’s wife who also went to the scene and rushed the victim to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A complaint was later lodged with the Police which issued a police medical form to the complainant on behalf of the victim.

The victim was admitted at the Hospital and operated on to remove a bullet believed to be AK-47 assault rifle from his thigh.

According to the police, the case was reported at the Tamale Central police station where several efforts were made to arrest the suspect but he managed to evade arrest at the time.

The accused person who is currently on remand for his alleged involvement in the murder of sergeant Agatha Nana Nabin was subsequently identified to the police by the victim as his assailant.

The Northern Regional Criminal Investigation Department processed him and expected to put him before the Tamale Magistrate Court.

Meanwhile, the case involving six suspects standing trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of the late policewoman will also be heard today at the Magistrate Court.
