Taxes not funding NDC ads - Gov't

Mahama Ad Dr Edward Omane Boamah says NDC adverts are paid for by NDC

Communications Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has said the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not funding its campaign adverts in the media with state funds.

“Government will not sponsor adverts put out by political parties. We have not gotten there yet. …NDC adverts are paid for by NDC, NPP adverts are paid for by NPP; I’m sure PPP same, I’m sure PNC same,” Mr Boamah said while addressing journalists in a press conference on Monday, November 28.

The NDC has several billboards of its candidates and achievements mounted across the country, outnumbering those of other political parties.

Recently, the acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, accused the NDC of deliberately blacking out minority political parties in the media particularly in the Eastern Region in a bid to keep the vulnerable majority of people in the dark and spread falsehood and propaganda in the region.

Some critics have also accused government of using money from the public purse for the purposes of these media campaigns.

But Mr Boamah maintain that media outlets have opportunities and programmes for parties, which the NDC is taking advantage of and the ones that are paid is taken care of by the party, not government.
