The Hohoe Magistrate Court has sentenced Beatrice Gbolonyo, a tenant to a fine of GH?420.00 for indiscriminate disposal of human excreta in polythene bags in her premises.

Beatrice pleaded guilty and was convicted on her own plea.

She would serve three months imprisonment if she defaults in paying the fine.

Prosecuting, Mr. Frank Azila-Gbettor, Chief Environmental Health Assistant at the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, presenting the facts of the case to the court presided over by Mr. Peter Anongdare, said the convicted person and two other accused persons who were absent from court live at Hohoe-Gborxome.

He said on January 30 this year, Environmental Health Officers on their routine house to house inspection visited the convicted person’s house and during the exercise detected indiscriminate disposal of human excreta in black polythene bags in the dwelling house.

Mr. Azila-Gbettor said the convicted person with the others were educated and advised to abate the nuisance and also construct a household toilet.

The Prosecutor said on February 10, 2020, the officers revisited the convicted person’s house and there were even more human excreta heaped in polythene bags and open defecation on the compound.

He said the convict was therefore arrested and brought before the court because the attitude of the convicted person could lead to outbreak of cholera, typhoid, dysentery and other diarrhoeal diseases.
