A total of 641 have been admitted to pursue diploma in education
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has reiterated its commitment to mount flexible, innovative and attractive programmes in its bid to produce quality graduates for the efficient delivery of quality education and services in the country.
In this direction, it has introduced a new policy that would facilitate the continuing education of its graduate students, by enrolling on the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programmes, as a top up to further strengthen the manpower needs of the education sector.
The Reverend Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Acting Vice Chancellor, who made this known, explained that, the University would continue its mission of training high calibre teachers and educational administrators to boost the human resource needs of educational institutions in the country.
He was speaking at the matriculation ceremony to admit fresh students who have enrolled on the sandwich mode of the University at the College of Technology Education (COLTEK), in Kumasi.
A total of 641 were admitted to pursue diploma in education while 379 post-graduate students were also selected to pursue various courses at the University.
Prof. Afful-Broni said the sandwich mode had become a viable option since it had the potential to support teachers to upgrade themselves while remaining at post.
He said the UEW was playing a leading role in the offering of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country.
That was why the government under its Development of Skills for Industry Project (DSIP) mandated COLTEK to exclusively train technical and vocational teachers for all levels of education, conduct research and disseminate knowledge as well as contribute to TVET policy formulation and development.
Prof. Afful-Broni said the University was committed to the mandate to help provide skills to address the country’s unemployment challenges.
He advised the fresh students to work hard and concentrate on their studies to help achieve their aims.
