The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Nabdam in the Upper East region has revealed that Nana Addo’s promise of 1-village, 1-dam is not his idea, hence the lack of a detailed plan on how the promise can be realized.

The 2016 flagbearer of the opposition NPP has promised to create at least, a dam, in every village in the Northern region, should he emerge President after the December 7, polls.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the only way to increase the total land area under cultivation in Ghana, which currently stands at a mere 30,000 out of 14 million hectares of arable land, is for the country to develop more irrigation systems.

“You have been hearing me talking about 1-District-1-Factory. As far as this part of the country is concerned, I even want to go further and talk about “1-village-1-dam”, to make sure that in every village, we have a functioning dam to support agriculture. If Ghana’s agriculture is working well, the nation is capable of feeding West Africa,” the former attorney general told the traditional council at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region during his campaign tour there.

But speaking on the Morning Starr Monday, Hon. Agambilla told host Nii Arday Clegg that Nana Addo’s promise was borne out of a request from people in the Upper East region.

“He has mentioned it, that is a vision, now [we must] sit down and do the calculation and the civil engineering...the bits of information available at hand tells me that this project is possible...so the vision to put dams in villages is possible.

“The public came to us with their needs when we arrived that we want a dam and we said, is it possible to do a dam and they said yes, so we said okay then it can be done and if it can be done then we buy that vision that only means when you vote for me and I come to power I will not steal the people’s money, I will not share people’s money and I will use the corrupt money to construct dams for you, that is what Nana said.”

Hon. Agambilla continued “Nana asked me whether it is feasible because people had told him that they need dams...and I am sure he asked other people too. This week I have been with him and he asked me but as to how he came out with it that is his business but I know that when the people told him here that they need dams he made enquiry discussions with us.”
