Akufo-Addo, Bawumia scheming to let PDS scandal die a natural death - NDC

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused government of conniving among themselves to ensure that issues surrounding Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited fade away at all cost.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the party’s National Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia maintained that the move was to enable ‘Akufo-Addo boys’ benefit from what he said is a corruptible act.

He averred that, “The game plan is to let the matter die a natural death as other scandals and still enable government create conditions for cronies of the president to profit from this clearly corrupt arrangement”.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s comment comes after investigations on the concession agreement between PDS and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) which was suspended on Tuesday, July 30 by government due to “fundamental and material breaches”.

PDS was faulted for not having enough financial guarantees for the deal after a committee was set to probe into the issue.

To the NDC, instead of government acting assertively on the report, it has resorted to “deliberate delay tactics” in a bid to shield appointees of the president.

“The people of Ghana were promised that investigations into the alleged fraudulent deal will be completed within 30 days. The report of the independent consultant was presented to MiDA on 3rd September. Instead of acting decisively and timeously on the report, government has resorted to deliberate delay tactics ostensibly to buy time and shield the high ranking officials and cronies of the president.” He indicated.

The NDC Scribe expressed shock by the “reckless” manner in which the rules, he asserted, were bent by government for PDS and the “irresponsible” manner in which over GH¢20 billion worth of assets of ECG were handed over to PDS.

He emphasized that this decision by government officials highlights the prevailing atmosphere of corruption and leadership paralysis that “we are currently witnessing under President Nana Akufo-Addo”.

In his words, “government officials led by Dr Bawumia and under the guidance of President Akufo-Addo decided to sacrifice the nation’s interest by changing the key requirement of a bank guarantee to that of an insurance guarantee thereby jeopardizing the access of ECG and the interest of Ghanaians”.

Asiedu Nketia, therefore, questioned President Akufo-Addo’s allegiance to Ghanaians and his promise of having the interest of citizens at heart.

The critical question is whose interest was the Vice President acting on behalf of President Akufo-Addo serving when he took that reckless decision which he knew very well or ought to know as a professional was inimical to the interest of Ghana.
