Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern about the Akufo-Addo government’s failure to continue with the Eastern Corridor road project, describing it as a “sad spectacle”.

The Mahama administration awarded the contract for the construction of the Hoehoe-Jasikan-Dodipepeso road and was scheduled to have been completed in 2018.

However, Mr Mahama said the Akufo-Addo government stopped work on the road project in 2017.

Addressing delegates of the NDC in Kadjebi in the Akan Constituency as part of his week-long flag bearer campaign tour of the Volta Region, Mr Mahama said his government prioritised the Hoehoe-Jasikan-Dodipepeso road by including it in the cocoa roads project.

He explained that even though cocoa is produced in the Hohoe area and some parts of the Volta Region, those who did not know questioned the inclusion of that road in the cocoa roads project.

Mr Mahama is, therefore, urging President Akufo-Addo to call the contractor back on site to avert a complete closure of the road during the rainy season.

On the impending NDC flagbearer election, Mr Mahama urged the delegates to vote for him by thumb-printing the number three spot on the ballot paper.

He said when elected in the 2020 presidential election, he will work hard to reduce the high cost of living and provide jobs.
