The Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has lambasted General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over a statement issued in reaction to the death of Captain Maxwell Mahama.

He has described him as an unwise politician following his reaction to the death of the officer.

The chief scribe of the umbrella family, Johnson Asiedu Nketia in a statement asked Ghanaians to blame President Akufo-Addo for the lynching and burning to death of Captain Mahama.

The statement read, the gruesome murder happened "under the direct supervision of President Akufo-Addo".

But responding to the statement by Asiedu Nketia, the Minister of Parliamentary affairs, Mr. Bonsu asked the former legislator to be wise since not everything can be politicised.

‘’Asiedu Nketiah must be wise. He must stop politicising everything under the sun,’’ he said.

‘’It is unfortunate that some individuals are trying to politicise the incident. This is not a political matter. They should be wise and understand that Ghanaians will not entertain such unwise comments.’’

The legislator said effort must be made to prevent the wife and children of the late Captain Mahama not to see the horrific pictures and videos of his death. ‘’If not it will cause the family greater harm,’’ he suggested.

He admitted, much needs to be done to ending the impunity and lawlessness recorded over the past few months.

An officer with the 5th Infantry Battallion of the Ghana Army, Maxwell Adam Mahama was on May 29, 2017 lynched at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.

The irate youth mistook him for an armed robber according reports that came after the incident. Seven suspects have been remanded in police custody after they were arraigned before a court. Seven others have been arrested in connection to the incident.
