Newly elected National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Joshua Hamidu Akamba has incurred the wrath of Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Sulley Sambian over unsavory remarks he passed about the death of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Emmanuel Kyeremanten Agyarko.

Mr Sambian described the comments of the NDC leader as an assault on public decency and morals and common sense, observing that unbridled desire for media attention, regardless of the cost to his reputation will sooner make Akamba irrelevant in politics.

In a statement copied to MyNewsGh.com, he said “your conduct is an assault to public decency and morals; your unbridled desire for media attention, regardless of the cost to your reputation will sooner make you irrelevant in our politics.” he wrote.

“It is true, that scoundrels are sometimes needed in politics just because they are scoundrels; it is equally true that propagandists are sometimes needed in politics.” he added, calling on the NDC as a party to call Akamba to order.

“… Those profiteering from the conduct of this category of people, and giving nobility to their conduct must be held politically vicariously liable for their conduct. It is in this light that I find the NDC’s failure to condemn Akamba quite unfortunate”

He said should the NDC fail to do the needful, they must not think that Ghanaians have forgotten where they took this country to.

Two days ago, the shocking news of the death of one of Ghana’s finest politicians was announced. The nation is yet to come to terms with such a great loss! May the soul of this faithful departed find eternal rest with his Maker.

Sadly, whilst the nation is still grief-stricken about this great loss, others like Akamba, the recently elected national organiser of the NDC, without taking into account the natural sensibilities of all of us, has, as usual opened his mouth to spew obscenities and propagate falsehood about the dead. I will not repeat what you said and give you or your comments the publicity that you badly need.

For me, the death of the honorable Emmanuel Agyarko is viewed as a personal one, having regards to my relationship with the Agyarko’s.

Mr. Akamba, your conduct is an assault to public decency and morals; your unbridled desire for media attention, regardless of the cost to your reputation will sooner make you irrelevant in our politics.

It is true, that scoundrels are sometimes needed in politics just because they are scoundrels; it is equally true that propagandists are sometimes needed in politics. However, those profiteering from the conduct of this category of people, and giving nobility to their conduct must be held politically vicariously liable for their conduct. It is in this light that I find the NDC’s failure to condemn Akamba quite unfortunate.
