Veteran Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has urged government to award a contract to the former Director General in charge of Technical at the Police Headquarters, Commissioner of Police (COP) Rose Bio-Atinga, to enable her return to work from her retirement to help in the fight against armed robbery in the country.

According to him, the former Senior Police Officer has expertise which could be used in the fight against armed robbery for the good of the entire nation in the wake of the surge in armed robbery cases and attacks on security personnel.

His comment comes on the back of the incident in which the Dome-Kwabenya Police Station in Accra was attacked by some unknown assailants on Sunday dawn, during which a senior police officer was killed and seven armed robbers freed from cell by the attackers.

A week ago, two police officers were shot to death by suspected armed robbers in the Ashanti region at dawn.

Commenting on the unfortunate development on Peace FM Tuesday, Kwasi Pratt who’s also the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper said the time has come for the country to tap into the expertise of all the former police chiefs who are currently on retirement.

“Madam Rose Bio Atinga when she became Accra Regional Police Commander we all witnessed the sort of work she did with regards to armed robbery. In spite of the fact that she is a woman, she held AK 47 rifle and faced armed robbers herself. I don’t have to be an insider, I don’t have to be an expert, we all saw what Rose Bio Atinga did in Accra in terms of the fight against armed robbery. Today where is she? why don’t we extend her contract so she still stays in the Police Service. Someone like this even if you’ll not give her extension or give her contract, you can employ her and give her a special task to help the fight against armed robbery.

“There’s a record of what every police officer has done while in service, why is former IGP Alhassan doing at home, if he’s not engaged then there’s a problem. Because he has expertise that could be put to use for the benefit of the entire country. We all know what COP Kofi Boakye can do, how is he being utilized? These are legitimate questions.

“I’m not saying the current IGP Asante Apeatu is not competent, I hear he’s one of the best Forensic experts in the world, but everybody has his/her area of expertise.” Mr Pratt said.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Rose Bio-Atinga, retired after 29 years of police work on Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was among those tipped to become the Inspector General of Police in 2012.

She joined the Ghana Police in 1988 as an officer and rose through the ranks to become the fourth female Commissioner of Police in Ghana having served in various capacities within the Service across the country.
