Commission of enquiry is a complete waste - Abraham Amaliba

Private legal practitioner Abraham Amaliba has described the commission of inquiry set up by President Akufo- Addo to investigate the violence at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as a complete waste of resources.

The Vice - President of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has, with the consent of President Nana Akufo- Addo, who is currently out of the country, set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the shooting incident that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

The commission is chaired by a former Commissioner of the commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short. With Legal expert, Professor Henrietta Mensah Bonus and Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong, a former IGP as members and a former Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Administration (GIMPA), Mr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi as Secretary of the commission.

Although Lawyer Amaliba acknowledged the capabilities of the chairman of the commission, Justice Emile Short, he added that there was no need for the government to set up a committee to investigate the unfortunate incident when there are videos and photos of the perpetrators widely displayed on the internet.

"Although I do not doubt the capabilities of Justice Emil Short, I also know that this [commission] is a complete waste. There are clear evidences available on the internet with the identity of the perpetrators revealed... Some people say they know these guys and even the Minister of state in charge of national security has confirmed that they are from his outfit so the President should allow the police do their job and stop pretending by setting up a commission of inquiry to look good" he told Boamah Darko on Hot93.9fm's 'Maakye' show.
