The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Obuasi East, Faustina Amissah wants government to impose a dusk to dawn curfew on the mining town following the spike in cases of the novel coronavirus.

The DCE who is also the Chairperson of the District Security Council(DISEC) said the action being sought for is necessary because Obuasi ought to go the full hog in its battle to contain the spread of coronavirus in her jurisdiction which has recorded almost 400 cases, making it the new epicentre in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on 'Anopa Kasapa' on Kasapa 102.5 FM on Tuesday, Madam Faustina Amissah stressed that as Obuasi races with the virus, the curfew is critical to enable local health authorities and the security to manage the situation in an efficient way.

According to her, they’re concerned with the sharp rise in cases despite efforts instituted to curb the spread, including the closure of two main markets and prosecution of persons who flout social distancing and the health protocols.

“Obuasi is leading in terms of sample picking in the country. We are very aggressive in the voluntary sample picking and testing and that has accounted for the huge figure we are seeing in relation to the cases being recorded. In fact the Obuasi situation gives a true picture of the extent of the spread of the virus. If all other districts, municipalities and metropolitan assemblies will take a cue from this and go the way we are going, it would give us a fair idea of the virus in the country,” she told host Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 Taskforce on Monday night succeeded in taking-over an isolation centre in Obuasi put under key and lock by some angry residents.

Locals have been protesting the siting of the Centre- a private facility at Akaporiso suburb, as they locked and blocked the two main entrances to the facility.

Some Covid-19 patients in Obuasi have been moved from private homes to the centre under tight security following the successful take-over.
