Social media is currently awash with a crusade by various human rights activists to stop the patronage of food prepared by Marwako restaurant following an assault of one of its Ghanaian staff by her Lebanese superior.

Evelyn Boakye 25, the victim, had her face allegedly rubbed in the blended pepper for more than 10 minutes while Jihad Chabaan, 26, squeezed her neck and yelled abusive words on her.

The incident which has attracted wide condemnation has led to some persons proposing that people stop patronising food prepared by Marwako, in solidarity of the abused employee who is a Ghanaian.

Many are of the view that the decision to stop patronising meals prepared by the restaurant will serve as a deterrent to other expatriate companies to learn to respect the rights of their employees in line with the laws of the country.

Meanwhile, Police confirmed to mynewsgh.com that the suspect has been arrested and his caution statement taken awaiting prosecution.

Management of Marwako, in a statement issued and signed by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alhaji Marwan Mohammed on Saturday, said the suspect has been suspended indicating its readiness to cooperate with the police in dealing with the issue.

“Management assures its clients and the general public that it does not and will never condone mistreatment of its workers and therefore condemns in no uncertain terms the alleged assault.

“Management is cooperating fully with and assisting police to establish the true facts for the purposes of allowing the laws of Ghana to be applied accordingly,” said the statement signed by CEO, Alhaji Marwan Mohammed.
