Daasebre Gyamera In Court Today

The popular highlife musician, Daasebre Gyamerah, who is facing charges of alleged drug trafficking in the United Kingdom, will appear before a London magistrate court today. However, Daasebre who was busted for allegedly smuggling two kilogrammes of cocaine with a street value of 100,000 pounds (¢1.6billion) appearance at the court would be heard through video conferencing in line with UK’s new rule on trying narcotic offices.

The in-camera hearing would take place at Magistrate Court Three in Uxbridge, London, where lots of London-based Ghanaian journalists are expected to troop, to cover the proceedings. The highlife maestro, who reports say has hired a high profile law firm to handle his case, would have his plea taken during his appearance today. The musician was arrested on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the London Heathrow Airport after travelling with British Airways from Accra by the British Immigration and Customs officials.

He was subsequently put before an Uxbridge magistrate court where he was remanded into prison custody to re-appear today. The musician’s father, Nana Gyamera has denied the involvement of his son in the drug saga, saying that he was a victim of conspiracy. Nana Gyamera explained that on the day of Daasebre’s departure, one of his managers, a certain Donaldson, came to the house and handed him with the suitcase in which the drug was concealed with a ticket for the trip.

The ailing father of the musician insists, there was no way his son could involve himself in a drug scandal. The musician was given out by “sniffer dogs”, during a routine check on passengers at Heathrow.
