NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency in the Western Region, Hon. George Mireku Duker says Georgina Opoku-Amankwah, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Finance and Administration at the Electoral Commission [EC] acted wrongly in serving EOCO a letter.

To him, “it was in a wrong context for her to write to Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) when she is under investigation by the same institution. Is she the one to tell EOCO what to do and at what time to finish her case?”.

“She has no audacity to go back to her office as she did without being given the mandate to do so even though she has served EOCO a letter in that effect, but have not yet received an answer”, he added.

An out of office injunction by EOCO on three EC officers; Georgina Opoku-Amankwah, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Finance and Administration; Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi, Chief Accountant and Joseph Kwaku Asamoah, Finance Officer due to an alleged misappropriation of GHc480,177.87 of the Endowment Fund by the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei has been cleared.

However, Ms Opoku-Amankwah tired of staying at home based on an order given her by EOCO was advised by her legal team to return to work where some security officers tried chasing her out, but she refused until the right procedures where channeled for her to leave office.

Discussing the clearance given the EC top officials by EOCO in an interview on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Hon. Mireku Duker insisted that “it is wrong for a state institution to be interfered with (in its work) by an individual or an organization on its proceedings, since every institution has its laws under which it performs its duties”.
