A group of farmers calling themselves Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFAG) is calling on Government to dissolve the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) with immediate effect.

Early this year, the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFAG) called on the government to intervene and put a stop to the cutting down of cocoa trees and replacing them with rubber plantation and mining activities.

The group alleged that COCOBOD’s posture towards the cutting down of trees coupled with their lack of interest in the protection of cocoa trees is affecting the progress of the Cocoa industry in the country.

“We do not have any cocoa. 5,000,000 trees will be cut down. Tomorrow, negotiations will be going on in the Eastern region, 500 acres are going to be pulled down. They are protecting the price and not the trees”

“COCOBOD is not doing anything to protect the cocoa trees in this country. COCOBOD should be dissolved because it is like a fraud to we the farmers. We are not seeing what they are doing. Go to Cote d’Ivoire and see how cocoa farmers their lives are and compare it to Ghana,” a representative of the farmers told journalists.

President of the association, Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu in a radio interview added that the group was convinced government had abandoned its role in educating cocoa farmers on the protection of cocoa trees.

“We are even educating farmers to protect the cocoa trees. Cocobod is not doing anything. We are the ones using our monies and what do we get from government? Nothing,” he said rather angrily.
