Commercial drivers in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality in the Western North Region have commended the President for lifting the lockdown which banned movement of vehicles to Kumasi and Accra due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Manager of the Sefwi Wiawso Bus Station, Kwasi Manu, said they were really affected financially, after not working for 21-days, but they had to endure it to save lives.

He said vehicles with four passengers on a seat have been reduced to three for the sake of social distancing. Also, vehicles which are supposed to pick 22 passengers have been reduced to 16 passengers without any upward adjustment in fares.

Mr. Manu said they have also maintained the old fares of GH¢17.00 from Wiawso to Kumasi.

According to him, four mini-buses had loaded and left for Kumasi as at midday yesterday (April 20, 2020).

Mr. Manu said he expects patronage of buses to Accra and Kumasi to increase as the information on lifting of the ban on the movement of people was yet to be known to some.
