Drop ‘alien’ Comprehensive Sexual Education – Youth group to government

The Ghana Youth Arise for Peace has supported calls for the complete withdrawal of the controversial Comprehensive Sexual Education policy.

According to the group, the CSE in its current state poses a great threat to the moral growth of the Ghanaian youth.

The group, in a statement, appealed to the Education Ministry and GES to abort all plans of introducing a policy that is ‘alien to our culture’ and ‘has the huge potential of jeopardizing the future of this nation’.

“GYPA is stating categorically together with other sane and well-meaning Ghanaians that we are rejecting outrightly any attempt to force a foreign practice which has the ability to ruin our future leaders down our throats”.

Meanwhile the Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said that the government has no plan of implementing a policy that is at variance with the beliefs and culture of Ghanaians.

“It is true that there are documents to show that under the watch of ex-President John Mahama comprehensive sexual education was made part of the revised curriculum that was started in 2015. It is a fact that there are manuals for teaching comprehensive sexual education started in 2015.”

“In this country, there’s a policy approval process that resides in his Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana. It is a fact that when we came up with the guidelines of the new comprehensive sexual education which has been in our classrooms for a very long time, His Excellency’s Cabinet did not agree with the comprehensive sexual education. We in the Ministry directed to make sure that according to Article 39 of the Constitution this sits within the cultural norms of the country. As we speak we haven’t approved any guidelines for comprehensive sexual education in Ghana our Motherland,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh added.

COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION: A BLOT ON OUR CONSCIENCE

For some time now, the most popular catch words on most mouths in our polity undoubtedly is ‘’Comprehensive Sexuality Education’’(CSE) which has allegedly and offensively smuggled its way to the syllabus of our children on whose shoulders the future of our nation rest.

This development if it’s anything to go by, would expose our children to education on anything that needs to be known on sex. Though the ministry of education has flatly watered down the fears of the public by issuing a statement that nothing of this nature has found space in our future leaders’ syllabus, we are still very jittery.

We in GYPA, a duly registered organization with the core mandate of promoting peace and security in Ghana and the world by extension, were very much alarmed when this news hit us because part of our roles as peace ambassadors is to ensure there is a solid foundation for posterity. We believe CSE is completely an alien to our culture and as a consequence it has the huge potential of jeopardizing the future of this nation.
