Aduana Stars midfielder, Elvis Opoku, says he was on the verge of joining Kotoko but his parents wanted him to stay at Aduana Stars, which made him extend his stay at the club.

The midfielder recently signed a three-year contract extension deal for the ‘Ogyaa Boys’ having had a terrific outing, where he propelled Aduana Stars win their second Premier League title for the second time in the club’s history.

According to the youngster, Kotoko were keen on acquiring his services but his parents convinced him to extend his stay at Aduana as they quest to conquer Africa in next season’s Champions League.

“I was very close to joining Kotoko but my parents decided I continue with Aduana even though my father is a former player of Kotoko.

“It got to a time my father sanctioned I continued at Aduana but my mum objected to it preferring Kotoko but it took Aduana officials to meet her and explain things to her after which they all gave me their blessings,” he told Kumasi based radio station Nhyira FM.

He added: “They have been the brain behind my success and so whatever they say is what I adhere to. It was in the second half of the league that Coach Polack hinted me he needed me at Kotoko.”

Meanwhile, Aduana Stars are expected to begin preparation towards the next football season when they resume camp on Thursday, 30, 2017.
