Expired relief food: Upper West NADMO boss's job must 'expire' too – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Founder of Danquah Institute (DI), Gabby Otchere-Darko has said the Upper West Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) deserves to lose his job for supervising the distribution of expired relief goods to flood victims in the area.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region was the first to raise the alarm about the expired food items that were distributed following devastating floods that displaced thousands of residents as a result of the spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso coupled with heavy rains.

When Class News first broke the news of the expired food items, the Regional NADMO Coordinator Isaac Seidu, in an interview with Class91.3FM’s Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on the 505 news programme on Tuesday, 25 September, said the NDC was only fueling propaganda to court disaffection for the governing New Patriotic Party and Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the relief mission in Wa and Sissala East.

In a U-turn, however, NADMO, in a statement, took full responsibility for distributing the expired goods saying it was a mistake and assured the general public that no such incident will recur in the future.

Commenting on the matter, Mr Otchere-Darko, cousin to President Nana Akufo-Addo tweeted: “When you serve flood victims expired goods, your job also deserves to expire. You don’t treat victims and the Veep this way.”
