The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has reiterated his stance in the fight against vigilantism stressing that he would do anything in his power to disband these groupings.

Speaking at the Emile Short Commission, the IGP said the issue of vigilantism is dear to his heart and it's in his resolve to make sure the issue is addressed.

According to him, the Ghana Police Service with support from the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) have started rolling out plans to curb vigilantism by issuing banners with inscriptions 'Vigilantism is a threat to our Democracy'.

The IGP made known that the rollout of banners and flyers at the Police Headquarters and some parts of Accra is to educate citizens on the threats vigilantism has on our democracy and also to deter people from joining such groups once they have full knowledge about it.

Commending President Akufo-Addo for his stance against vigilantism, the IGP noted the fight against the menace will yield positive results if all Ghanaians got involved.

"It is my firm believe that if all of us, at least if we should get critical mass of Ghanaians, to say that whoever has a vigilante group in his political party we are not going to vote for you, I am sure that it will make the work of the police much easier if all of us should take the decision because what we are seeing now if it metaphors into another stage it will be so difficult for us to reverse it."

He also urged political parties to disband the various vigilante groups associated with them for Ghana to enjoy the peace it already has.
