A female staff of GCB Bank has committed suicide by hanging, an action that coincided with her dismissal from the bank.
Agnes Asampana’s body was found hanging by a nylon rope to her ceiling fan in her room at Ayekokye, a suburb of Suhum on Friday, 5 July 2019 by her worried brother who made his way there after several unanswered calls.
The body of the 40-year-old woman, who worked with GCB Bank’s Nsawam branch, has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue.
The eastern regional police command has launched an investigation into the matter.
GCB Bank, according to sources, is undertaking a retrenchment of some staff using the senior secondary school certificates rather than their tertiary qualifications.
Some 140 staff are likely to be affected, according to sources familiar with the situation.
