'GFA is not your father' - Malik Jabir to former players

Former Ghanaian international, Coach Mailk Jabir says ex players who always call on the GFA to come to their aid should desist from it adding that the “GFA is not their father”.

Coach Jabir who was speaking in an interview with www.442gh.com said “how many footballers contribute something to the GFA during their playing days, yet they always call on this same FA to come to their aid when they find the going tough after their careers end”.

“I get surprised when I hear or see former players calling on the GFA to come to their aid in times of distress when they had all the chance in the world to do something with their lives as they were still in the game”, Malik Jabir mentioned.

According to him, he never played for any other Club apart from Asante Kotoko yet he is living very comfortably now, far more than when he was even playing active soccer.

“My secret was simple, and I want to tell every footballer out there who is still playing or about to get into the profession, ‘SAVE MORE THAN YOU CONSUME’.

“I always say this and will continue to say it. Some lifestyles will not help athletes to either focus or save for their future after football and that is where they now feel the state or the GFA owes them something. The GFA is not your father”

“I have never seen a live band play apart from maybe on the tv. I am always in my room reading or watching football related programs. Learning more on the game of football.

“No matter how small your salary is or how much you earn, start something. Buy a piece of land somewhere, make an investment so that in your old age you wont b e found wanting.

“Back then man did not earn anything. We were playing football just because we wanted to. Yet we are ok now. So others can do same and it will be well with them after they hang their boots”, Malik Jabir adviced.
