Ex Ghana striker Augustine Ahinful says concentration should be shifted to adequately preparing the Black Stars ahead of the game against Egypt rather than focusing on the venue the match will be played.
Many await FIFA’s verdict on whether Cairo – the earmarked venue for the match- is safe enough to host the return leg of the World Cup playoff on November 19.
The Ghana FA have made their concerns over security issues in the Egyptian capital in the ongoing civil unrest official to the world football governing body.
Their counterparts in the Egyptian FA however insist measures are being put in place to ensure Cairo is safe enough to hold the match.
A lot of back and forth have since ensued over this topic and former Ghana international Arhinful believes the discussion is veering the nation off the most important focus which is preparing the team for the game on November 19.
“We shouldn’t emphasize too much on the venue of the game so that we don’t lose track of our preparations towards the match,” he told Radio Gold.
“The boys are professionals and I believe they will be able to play well wherever they are told provided the place is safe.
“But then we need to keep our eye on the ball and ensure that as it were we don’t lose concentration on our preparations towards the match.”
Ghana hold a commanding 6-1 advantage going into the second leg match at the yet to be determined venue.
The Black Stars are overwhelming favourites to picking one of five available qualification slots for Africa after posting the highly impressive result in the first leg before their home crowd in Kumasi.
