An executive in an interaction with some drivers
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has endorsed the partnership between the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and stakeholders in the transport sector to address road traffic offences and accidents.
The leadership of the GPRTU believes the campaign would go a long way to address road accidents and will position drivers and all transport sector operators to conduct their activities with civility.
Speaking at a mini-durbar organized by the partners engaged in the campaign at Capecoast station on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, the GPRTU executive said it was heartwarming to see journalists developing interest in an area that primarily affects all Ghanaians.
"The involvement of GJA in the campaign demonstrates their commitment and level of seriousness in addressing carnage on our roads. GPRTU is more excited because, road safety is a shared responsibility"
The executive added "We have endorsed the partnership and would urge other organizations to join the campaign to reduce the carnage on our roads"
The branch chairman, Mr Kwesi Ansah who addressed the drivers said following pragmatic measures adopted by the GPRTU to get all their members to observe all safety regulations when driving said the outcome of that campaign has been very impressive.
He appealed to all drivers plying their trade in Western Region to join the GPRTU to gain knowledge through these sensitization exercises constantly being carried out by the union to keep their members well informed and educated.
He lauded the intensity of the ongoing campaign which would remain in full gear before, during and after the yuletide.
The Acting Western Regional Head of National Road Safety Commission, Nana Akua Ansaah Cobbina who addressed the drivers said the relationship between the stakeholders championing the campaign was excellent.
She charged the drivers to follow the campaign with keen attention and support every aspect of road traffic regulations required to address all the causes of accidents.
She asked drivers without the requisite documents to endeavor to acquire them to avoid incurring the wrath of law enforcement officers constantly monitoring the roads.
Western Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association Zambaga Rufai Saminu who addressed the drivers explained why the Association got itself involved in the road safety campaign, emphasizing that it was necessary to save lives.
He appealed to drivers to join the campaign by reminding colleagues to understand their responsibilities and comply with all safety regulations and prevent needless accidents killing innocent people.
