Ghana Beyond Aid: Ghana must continue to take the aid - Mahama Ayariga

Chairman of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee of Parliament and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga says Government’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda should not prevent us from taking aids from the Western countries. Mahama Ayariga said the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda by President Akufo-Addo has a valid point but the monies given by these Western countries are proceeds from exploitation and colonialism and we need to take them.

According to Mahama Ayariga, if we pursue this agenda, it means we will be leaving the developed countries to spend the proceeds of colonialism alone.

Speaking on Joy FM's Newsfile on Saturday March 10 he said: “If you continue with the history of exploitation of countries by the developed countries and the world that has been built over the years in the developed countries there is a case for saying that they must send some of these monies to the developing countries to help them fast track the process of development to meet the basic needs of their people, we can’t allow them to keep all that money starting from slavery to colonialism and how a dependent economy was structured that natural resources were moved from here to go to the metropolis to facilitate the development of the metropolis, how they kill deliberately some industries that were emerging to boost their own industries turning us into producers of raw materials.”

“By truncating our process of development today, we can’t just sit by and allow them to spend all these monies,” he stated.

President Akufo-Addo on Independence Day celebration reiterated his commitment to building a Ghana Beyond Aid economy. According to President Akufo-Addo, to achieve a Ghana Beyond Aid we must effectively harness our own resources and creatively and efficiently deploy them for rapid economic and social transformation.

The statement by the President did not get the needed understanding by the public as some people questioned what he really meant by Ghana Beyond Aid.

Explaining the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda by government Deputy Minister of Information said the agenda falls under four pillars consisting the revenue pillar, expenditure pillar, finance pillar and the alternative usage pillar.

He stated that all these pillars have planned programmes to help achieve the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
