The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has announced government’s plans to open an innovation centre that will collate findings conducted by researchers in the country.

The Ghana Innovation and Research Commercialisation Centre to be launched on July 5, 2018, at the Alisa Hotel is a national platform aimed at promoting and supporting innovation through a partnership between the Ministry, the private sector, research institutions and tertiary institutions.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the EDF Pulse Africa competition which seeks to support African innovators who are contributing to the continent’s energy growth, the Special Assistant to the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Oliver Boachie said the centre would facilitate the translation of research findings and other innovations into products and services for commercialisation.

This he said will create an enabling environment that would enable the country to find solutions to its problems, set up industries and create jobs.

According to him, the Ministry would ensure that innovation and research endeavours that are in alignment with national development are supported, prototyped and commercialised.

“It is a partnership that the government is getting into with our research institutions, our universities and polytechnics as well as the private sector. First to demonstrate government’s strong commitment and to ensure that our research investments lead to commercialisation".

" This will create an enabling environment and also enable us to find solutions to our own problems, set up industries, create jobs and keep the resulting wealth to our country”, he said.
