Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Ernesto Yeboah, has described Ghana’s democracy as a fake one created and sustained by a “sakawa” constitution, ABC News can report.

Speaking to the press Monday afternoon, the Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters lamented the rising state of insecurity, poor health, unemployment and corruption bedeviling the country.

He described the idea of the new parliamentary chamber as useless and ridiculous, especially in view of the rate of absenteeism in Parliament.

According to him, there is no existing democracy in Ghana because it is typical of the elected legislators to go to Parliament and further personal interests rather than the interests of their respective constituents.

He further highlighted this perceived non existence of democracy by enumerating some of the projects that Parliament went ahead to endorse which was in stark contrast to what the citizens wanted, citing the controversial national cathedral as an example.

He also cited the Ghana-US colonization bill that was recently signed as well as the Right to Information (RTI) bill which rather took seventeen years to be passed.

He also bemoaned the non-payment of teachers recruited for the double track SHS system for nine months, the meager salaries earned by research assistants in parliament and the deplorable state of the country’s roads.

Ernesto Yeboah is calling for an ‘uprising’. He wants the youth to rededicate themselves to dismantle what he describes as a “rotten system” and to develop a new one capable of working in the interest of all citizens.

Mr. Yeboah stressed his full support for the upcoming 2million Ghanaians March and extended gratitude to Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu and Samson Lardy for their unflinching support and also called for the immediate release of Lance Corporal Wassah, who is still being detained by the military in relation to a video that went viral.
