The government has been advised to prioritize the One-District-One-Factory programme as a main source of creating sustainable employment for the increasing rate of graduates in the country.

According to a Human Capital Expert, Mrs. Elsie Apau-Klu, the Nations Builders Corps (NaBCo) programme may not be the best solution to the Ghana’s increasing rate of unemployment, citing the possible political juggles it may suffer in the hands of politicians moving forward.

"Government should focus on building a sustainable employment policies and programmes. The One District One Factory would have been a laudable initiative to solve the unemployment challenges in the country. These factories can employ up to 100 people, and considering the number of districts we have, this could be a huge improvement on the unemployment saga and will be more realistic and sustainable," she said.

Speaking on GN Morning U.K on the efficacy of the NaBCo recruits, Mrs Apau-Klu questioned the employable nature of the NaBCo recruits after the progamme ends, stating that, "who says after the two, three years of NaBCo trainees will be relevant for the sectors that will employ them. Starting and abandon such programs only create unrealistic expectations for the young people’.’

"The National Service Scheme already provides us the avenue to do some hands on learning at the job, we can recognize and reorient the NSS to give young people practical experience. For me going, to a third or second level of giving that type of practical experience I think is a waste of time for the young people," she added.
