Government to construct 50 warehouses in 2018 – Akufo-Addo
The government will construct fifty warehouses across the country to address the waste of farm produce and curb food insecurity in the country.
The Upper East Region will get five out of the 50 warehouses.
Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed this when he addressed a durbar at Sandema after inspecting works on the Chuchuliga-Sandema-Wiaga road.
“We are constructing 50 warehouses across the country this year to provide for storage for the output of our farmers.
For too long as farm produce gone rotten in Ghana because we do not have any structure for storing and at the end of the year when these 50 warehouses are in place, that is also going to be a thing of the past”.
Nana Addo also said the government was almost on the verge of completing an agreement with the EXIM bank which will be used to establish Agriculture mechanized centers.
“The EXIM bank has seen faith to grant a $150 million loan to the government of Ghana for the creation of agricultural mechanization centers which will involve tractors across the country and am hoping that Parliament will ratify the loan agreement which will provide agricultural services for our farmers.”
He reiterated that government has advanced payments to the contractor working on the Sandema-Chuchuliga-Wiaga road to return to the site to speedily complete work.
Nana Addo indicated that, as part of the One District One Factory initiative of government, building material would be established in the Upper East Region to mitigate the pricing discrepancies for such materials produced outside the region.
He also hinted that the government through the Ministry of Energy would establish an electricity sub-station at Sandema to provide uninterrupted power for residents of the area.
Nana Addo added that the Builsa North and South districts would benefit ten dams each under the One-Village One-Dam initiative of the government.
