Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has told the Ghartey Committee probing the bribery allegation against the leadership of parliament’s Appointments Committee and himself that “at no point of my vetting did I feel that confirmation of my nomination was at risk”, adding: “I, therefore, had no motive whatsoever of influencing anybody with regard to my confirmation.”

Mr Agyarko was accused by Appointments Committee member Mahama Ayariga of doling out GHS3,000 each to the Minority side of the committee so it could pass him without further delay.

The money, according to Mr Ayariga, was routed through Appointments Committee Chair Joe Osei-Owusu, who, in turn, channelled it to Minority members of the committee through Minority Chief Whip Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

Appearing before the five-member ad hoc committee hearing the matter, Mr Agyarko said he felt “incredulous about the matter and all I said was I had done no such thing, would not do such thing…”

He categorically said no money was given by him to any member of the Appointments Committee with the intention of influencing them to pass him since he was convinced that he performed creditably well during his vetting and could also count on the majority NPP MPs on both the Appointments Committee and the plenary to pass him if push came to shove.
