Winner of ‘Di Asa’, Precious Mensah, in her interview on GhanaWeb’s ‘Say It Loud’ disclosed that she nearly died after taking slimming pills which were meant to help her shed some weight.

Narrating her bitter experience, Ghana’s plus size Queen, PM, as she is popularly known, stated that she developed a complication in the heart after taking the dosage which was prescribed to her.

“Unfortunately, anytime I take this drug, I feel pains in my heart. If I take it, I don’t feel okay but if I don’t take it, I feel okay… I took the drug and threw it into the bin,” she narrated.

PM further explained that it didn’t take long for her to realize that the slimming pill was going to be the death of her. The complications that came with taking the pills led her to abort the dreams of obtaining that ‘perfect body size.’

PM, however, admitted that she is no longer moved by the pressures from society to lose weight, noting that the daily insults and public ridicules cannot break her down.

“I accepted (drug) because my friends always left me behind when going to ‘chill’, at that time I was so eager to lose weight so when he brought up the opinion I said yes,” PM revealed in the interview.

Precious Mensah (PM) believes that being plus size is ‘genetic’ adding that it runs in her family. According to PM, most of her siblings who are overweight turn to develop it as they grow.

“They’ve got to know that it’s from their side, it’s part of them and it’s in their blood … so they have to embrace nature,” she said.
