Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that some big wigs in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are now ministers were constantly receiving cash from Ibrahim Mahama, brother of former President Mahama when their party was in opposition.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ said he could not fathom why men who benefited from the businessman are now accusing him of being a criminal.

“It hurts me that the NPP now see Ibrahim as a criminal. When the NDC was in power, some big wigs in the NPP who are ministers today used to march to Ibrahim Mahama’s house for cash.

“They go there to take money but today they see him as a demon. They take the money from him and go to spend it in the constituencies,” he revealed.

Mr Allotey Jacobs’ comments follow Mr. Mahama’s invitation by EOCO for questioning over some dud cheques he issued to the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Tema Ports to clear some heavy duty equipment he imported into the country.

He has however been ordered to pay GH¢12.7m to the Ghana Revenue Authority by May 8, 2017.

The amount represents duty for goods he cleared at the Tema Port with the said dud cheques in 2015 plus interest.

The interest on the amount was worked by the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The NDC chairman opined that Ibrahim Mahama has not committed any crime indicating that there are several businesses in Ghana who have made such arrangements with the Ghana Revenue Authority in time past.
