Is Kofi Amoabeng’s refusal to pay tithe cause of UT Bank collapse?

Social media handles have been awash with a story curled from an interview with Kofi Amoabeng, Founder of UT Bank over claims he does not see the need to pay tithe and therefore will not honour that part of a religious obligation.

According to the Bible, tithing is the act of giving one tenth of annual produce or earnings, formerly taken as a tax for the support of the Church and clergy.

In 2015 during an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Drive, Mr Kofi Amoabeng was reported to have said though he believes in God and attends church only during festivities, he does not see the need to honour tithing.

“I don’t pay tithe. I would not give 10 percent and nobody can force me to give 10 percent of my money to anybody. So I don’t pay tithe. I do all sorts of philanthropic jobs myself. I see where there is the need for me to help and I help.

“I don’t have to give it to somebody who then decides where to put the money. So it is my hard earned money and I should put it where I want to put it. “I’m not saying payment of tithe is bad. I’m not here to say ‘don’t pay tithe’. No. I think it depends on what you see the church for and what the church means to you and does for you.”

Many are trying to draw a linkage between the collapse of his business and his refusal to pay tithes but controversial Ghanaian musician, A Plus born Kwame Asare also responded to the issue in a facebook post.
