So it means it took them four months to realize the 235 extra promises? This shows the kind of people we are dealing with," the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.

The Ofoase-Ayirebi MP was reacting to some allegations made by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the ruling government has only achieved 14 per cent of its promises.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that they gave the NDC an immediate response because if they allow it to fester, it can create a wrong impression in the minds of Ghanaians.

"To accuse the President and his vice of intellectual dishonesty is a grave allegation and so we decided to expose them because this is not the first time they are doing something like this. In 2018 they peddled falsehood about a military base being set up in Ghana which turned out not to be true," he said.

" . . if we don’t respond, they will keep deceiving Ghanaians . . . even a typical objective NDC member will disagree that Akufo-Addo has only achieved 14 per cent of his promises," he told Kwami Sefa Kayi.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, June 15, 2020, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah described the claims by the NDC as distortion of facts “one that the leading opposition party is engaging in to serve their own parochial partisan interest”.

Mr Nkrumah has slammed the opposition party for parading dishonesty about the current state of affairs in a press conference on Monday.

“As we get into the 2020 national conversation period, one of the narratives that the NDC seek to carve is a narrative of dishonesty and in order to give life or credence to that narrative, they have to create scenarios that if indeed we made 388 promises, they will find some ways of adding some 235 and claim that we made 631 and in the end say therefore that we have been dishonest”

He said part of the NDC strategy is increasing the NPP’s promises from 388 to 631 to enable the opposition party make a claim of dishonesty against the Akufo-Addo administration.

Background

The government on Monday held a press conference to respond to opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s claims that it has failed Ghanaians with failed manifesto promises.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who led the presser said it was an act of "intellectual dishonesty" for the NDC to downplay the achievements of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) government.

This was after the NDC had scored the Akufo-Addo-led administration 14 per cent on the fulfilment of its 2016 campaign promises.

According to them only 86 out of the 631 campaign promises made by the government have been delivered.
