A joint team of police and military personnel have retrieved some 73 locally manufactured long barrel guns, a pistol and other offensive weapons in an operation ‘Kundalgou’ conducted in Karga.
The team arrested 4 persons; 60-year-old Mahamudu Fuseini, Mohammed Suraju, 53-year old Yussif Iddrisu, and 27-year old Abdul Somed Baba all blacksmiths for allegedly being involved in the manufacturing of guns, as well as the possession of dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp.
Other materials retrieved include 3 hacksaw blades, 3 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one grinding machine and an amount of 18.60 cedis.
The house of one Majid Adams, a suspect on the run, was searched and locally manufactured guns and tools alleged to be used in the manufacturing were retrieved.
All four suspects are in custody at the Northern Region Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service.
In a related development, 38 suspects were arrested in Yendi, Cherponi and Saboba for illegal possession of weapons and Narcotics.
Meanwhile, the Northern Region Police Command have refused to comment on the issue.
