Kidnappings: Police joking; where's my sister? – Family

The families of the three kidnapped girls in Takoradi in the Western Region have questioned the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to help find and rescue the victims.

This follows a claim by a key suspect in the matter, Samuel Udoetuk-Wills, that he was aided by a police officer to escape from cell custody in December 2018.

“It’s getting to three months, where is my sister? Whether she is alive or not we don’t know anything. We are joking with this guy [key suspect]… What is going on in Ghana? Seriously, we don’t understand,” Rebecca Quayson, a sister of one of the missing young ladies, Ruth Love Quayson said after Monday’s court proceedings.

The families have thus issued a one-week ultimatum to the police to find their daughters.

Samuel Udoetuk-Wills told the court on Monday, 11 February 2019 that he got help from an officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (CID) to escape from police custody.

He told the court, however, that he does not know the name of the officer but can identify him.

He also revealed that another individual, named only as Kwesi, provided him with oil which facilitated the cutting of the iron bars used to barricade the windows of the police cells where he was held.



The suspect said he does not know the whereabouts of the said Kwesi, too. The case was adjourned to February 18.

The missing girls are 18-year-old Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, last seen on 21 December 2018; 21-year-old Priscilla Blessing Bentum, last seen on 17 August 2018; and 18-year-old Ruth Love Quayson, last seen on 4 December 2018.
