Kintampo accident: Families claim bodies

Relatives of victims of the Kintampo Waterfall accident have been handed the remains of their loved ones who died in the tragedy that occurred on Sunday 19 March, Kwesi Botchwey, administrator of the Wenchi Government Hospital, has said.

According to him, out of the 18 people who died, 15 were brought to the hospital, of which 14 of them have been claimed by relatives.

Speaking in an interview with Emefa Apawu, on the 505 programme on Class91.3FM on Monday, Mr Botchwey said: “Relatives have come for the bodies and efforts are being made for their burial. Only one body is left and my information is that family members are on their way coming, so before I leave office today I will be sure that there is nobody in the morgue. Only 15 of them were brought to the Wenchi Government Hospital.”

Meanwhile, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has extended her condolences to the families of those who died and sustained injuries in the Kintampo Waterfall accident that occurred on Sunday 19 March, killing 18 people.

Out of the 18 people who lost their lives, 15 of them were students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mrs Akufo-Addo tweeted: “My heartfelt condolence goes out to the families and loved ones of the tragedy at the Kintampo Falls. May God's good grace cover us all.”
