Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has sided with economist Andrews Kwame Pianim in his assertion that it is meaningless to just bandy about economic figures if it does not translate into something tangible for Ghanaians.

The celebrated Ghanaian business economist and investment consultant courted controversy this week when he was reported to have said that fixing the challenges of the local currency, the cedi; needs more action than mere words.

To him, addressing the fundamentals of the economy is what should grab the attention of all.

"All that I am saying is that people don't eat words. They see the exchange rate reflect in their cost of living because prices will go up. Let's stop talking and focus on addressing the fundamentals....It doesn't matter which party is in power; we should stop political point scoring," he stated.

This follows a town hall meeting on Wednesday, that was led by the Economic Management team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), chaired by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia speaking at the meeting stated how the ruling government has been able to put the economy back on track after the NDC left it in tatters. Click to read the full speech

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), countered a day later, with the party's flagbearer, John Mahama pontificating that government "can do all the lies and propaganda with the economy you like, the reality of people's life will eventually expose them (Akufo-Addo administration)."

Adding his voice to this on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwesi Pratt said the figures churned out by the government will not be meaningful if it has no effect on people’s livelihood.
