Flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to “let the will of the people prevail” in connection with the presidential and parliamentary elections organised on Wednesday December 7.
Dr Nduom, who has conceded defeat in the election and congratulated the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for “winning,” per the provisional results to him, urged the election management body to confirm the results as soon as they can.
In a Facebook post, Dr Nduom noted that he will respect whatever results the EC announces but cautioned that it should be based on the real votes cast by the electorate.
“I know for sure that I am not the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Mrs. Charlotte Osei will tell the nation, and I hope soon and very soon, the confirmed results from yesterday's elections. If the Commission points to Nana Akufo-Addo, I will congratulate him. If the Commission points to John Dramani Mahama, I will congratulate him. If the Commission points to a runoff, it will be done and I will congratulate the winner. But the final results must have integrity and must be based on the real votes cast by the people,” Dr Nduom wrote adding “the will of the people must prevail and that is the only path to peace and development”.
