Reports say parents have refused to allow their wards to go to school over fears they may be harmed
Locals are fleeing troubled Mankessim in the Central region following fears of a reprisal attack in the chieftaincy dispute that has hit the town.
According to Kasapa News Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfuor, tension prevails in the Central regional town with locals moving out of town to seek refuge in nearby towns and villages.
In addition, parents have refused to allow their wards to go to school today over fears they may be caught in the crossfire of the chieftaincy dispute that led to the death of a BNI officer and one other over the weekend.
“It is tensed here and people are saying they won’t allow their kids to go to school. The police are still stationed here but that notwithstanding the people are still scared,” Baah Acheamfuor reported.
A BNI officer and a civilian died of gunshot wounds while five others sustained injuries during the installation of a paramount Queenmother, Nana Araba Otua at Mankessim.
Meanwhile, five people have currently been picked up over the incident by the Police.
The Central Regional Police PRO DSP Irene Oppong told Starr FM Monday things are under control in the town.
” I can assure all residents that things are under control. There is nothing to be afraid of. We have enough men on the grounds to protect everybody”.
