The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has urged politicians to ensure that they only make promises which are realistic and achievable to the public.

With momentum gathering ahead of the crucial election on December 7 which promises to be keenly contested among the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the various parties continue to make promises to the electorate.

The NPP has come under heavy attack especially from the supporters of the NDC and other members of the public who think some of the party’s manifesto promises are impracticable.

The party among others has promised to build one dam in every village up North of the country, allocate $1 million to the 275 constituencies and also build one factory in every district.

But speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM, Rev. Prof. Asante stated that politicians cannot take Ghanaians for granted anymore as the populace are becoming discerning by each passing day.

“We know the way politicians have always promised things that they have no fulfilled. My humble plea is that our political culture is growing, people are becoming very sensitive to issues, politicians who mount platforms and are promising all sorts of things should be very careful that what they are promising is realistic.”

He added: “Of course it it said that politics is the art of the possible, when you are not in there, you see things differently…it is only when you there that you begin to see, but when you get there and you think you are not able to do that be honest enough to say…I promised you this because of abc I don’t think we are in a position to fulfill it now.”
